Latest meeting updates: Limited Late Registration available. No walk-in registrations accepted.

The 2025 Northeast Bat Working Group (NEBWG) annual meeting will be held in downtown Harrisburg, PA. Three days of sessions relevant to bats in the NE US, two breakfasts, a lunch, refreshments during breaks, exhibitors, and a poster session party with appetizers are all included. A detailed agenda will be available in January, but use the overview below (subject to change) for planning. All participants must pre-register and registration will close when sold out. There will be no onsite registration for this event!

NEBWG is comprised of agencies, organizations, industry, and individuals interested in bat research, management, and conservation located in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Virginia area regions. A winter meeting is held each year at various locations where participants present results from previous studies, provide updates on long term projects, and plan future multi-state collaborative endeavors. State representatives provide summaries of their state's bat related activities, while federal representatives provide updates on national scale policy and protection efforts.

Venue, Lodging, and Parking: The Hilton Harrisburg (+1 (717) 233-6000) no longer has rooms available specifically for NEBWG, so your rate may vary. Normal discounts and government rates may still apply, so ask when booking. Park in the garage adjoining the Hilton; Hilton guests receive a parking pass on check in which allows unlimited re-entries for $15/day. Daily garage parking is discounted to $7 per day every 10 hours; you must bring your ticket to the Hilton front desk to obtain the NEBWG parking rate. You'll be charged significantly higher if you overstay the 10 hour limit, but are welcome to exit and re-enter to keep the reduced rate. The garage is not owned by the Hilton.

Alternate Lodging:  Alternate lodging is literally next door at the Crowne Plaza Harrisburg-Hershey, 23 South 2nd Street Harrisburg. Room rates online started at $112 as of 12/19 before any discounts. Government employees with ID may qualify for a government rate. There are no discount codes active at any hotel any longer.

Keynote Speaker

Keith Christenson Wildlife Biologist

Beginning as a sport caver in 1989, Keith started drifting into cave science, and then more specifically hibernating bats, before returning to Penn State University to complete a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science. Recently retired from Sanders Environmental, he is no stranger to work related to locating the foraging and roosting locations of endangered bats across the eastern United States. Keith has lived overseas in five different countries and participated in dozens of international expeditions related to caves and/or bats, usually as the team biologist and still photographer. Along the way, he has been on more than 1000 cave trips and had the opportunity to work with thousands of bats from over 40 different genera. His photography has been used by National Geographic, Shutterbug Magazine, and many other publications relating to caves and bats.

56 pages of presentation and poster abstracts, the schedule of events and speakers, and our dedicated sponsors.

Thanks Caroline and Juliet for assembling this cornucopia of batty goodness.

Looking for a restaurant near NEBWG?
Besides the resturant inside the Hilton, be aware there is a food court at Strawberry Square which is attached to the Hilton (walk down the hall on Level 2, the same level as the ballroom). Various restaurants (and even a mechanical bull) are a short walk outside the Hilton; see this list of options: ResturantList20240102.pdf
Thanks Amber and Aura for these hand picked suggestions.
